Boudoir meets barbie
I'm still starry eyed over this session! I just wrapped an exhilarating project —a Barbie-themed boudoir photoshoot that was every bit as fun and fabulous as it sounds. And what made it even more special was collaborating with my brother, Reid, from FakeFace Aesthetics, who is not only a phenomenal aesthetician and makeup artist but also my best friend.
Reid and I have been dreaming up creative concoctions since we were kids in Cisco, playing with cameras, crafts, and contour. Bringing our childhood creativity into our professional lives has been a dream come true. For this shoot, Reid brought his A-game, transforming our client, who also happens to be a long-time friend and one of my very first boudoir subjects, into a real-life Barbie. It was like stepping into a playful, glamorous world where every detail screamed pink and perfection!
Our client, Melissa, was all in for this creative adventure. Having worked with her before, she trusted my vision and embraced the way I developed her requests wholeheartedly. Melissa’s comfort and familiarity with my style, combined with Reid’s expert touch, made the day not just a photoshoot but a celebration of friendship and creativity.
From selecting the luxury outfits to choosing the right accessories, every step was a collaborative effort. Reid used a palette of natural, yet bold colors that perfectly matched the Barbie theme, and his attention to detail with the makeup was nothing short of artistic. The shoot itself was filled with laughter and music, making it feel less like work and more like a party.
Photographically, I aimed to capture the essence of Barbie—a blend of beauty, fun, and inspiration, while also adding Melissa's edge as well. The lighting was key in creating a vibrant ambiance that echoed the iconic doll's energy and spirit. Each frame highlighted Melissa's confidence and the stunning makeup artistry of Reid, set against a pink sequined backdrop that brought our Barbie world to life.
Post-shoot, the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with lots of love and excitement from everyone who’s seen the previews. It’s these projects that remind me why I fell in love with photography in the first place. The ability to freeze a moment of pure joy and artistry, creating something timeless and beautiful, is truly magical.
