Do I Have to Get Naked for Boudoir? (Absolutely Not.)
One of the most common questions I hear before a session is, “Do I have to get naked for boudoir?” The short answer is no — you never have to get undressed unless you want to. Boudoir is about confidence, not clothing. It’s about capturing the way you feel, not how much skin you show.
Every woman’s comfort level is different, and that’s exactly how it should be. My job as your photographer is to create a space where you feel completely safe, respected, and empowered to express yourself however you choose. Some women feel their most beautiful wrapped in silk or wearing one of my luxury client-closet gowns, while others feel empowered in their favorite lingerie or a simple button-down shirt borrowed from their husband. There’s no right or wrong way to experience boudoir — only your way.
If you love the idea of a soft, romantic aesthetic, we can use draped fabrics or flowing gowns to create timeless, fine-art images. These sessions often have an elegant, painterly feel — inspired by the beauty and form of classic Renaissance artwork. If your style is more cozy or playful, a sweater, robe, or one of his shirts can add a personal, intimate touch without revealing too much. And of course, if you prefer something more traditional, we can style your session with lingerie that flatters your shape while keeping you comfortable and confident.
What matters most is that every pose, outfit, and creative choice feels true to you. Before your session, we’ll chat about your comfort level, preferences, and vision for the shoot. Together, we’ll plan styling and posing that aligns with your personal boundaries. During the session, I’ll guide you step-by-step — so there’s never any pressure or uncertainty.
At its heart, boudoir is not about exposure. It’s about empowerment. It’s about honoring the body you live in, celebrating your strength, and seeing yourself through a lens of beauty and grace. Whether you’re wearing a gown, lingerie, or nothing at all, the confidence that shines through is what makes the photograph powerful.
Many of my favorite images have been the most modest — soft lighting, a turned shoulder, a laugh caught mid-moment. Those photographs speak of authenticity, not performance. Boudoir should leave you feeling uplifted, seen, and proud of the woman in those photos — no matter how much (or how little) you chose to reveal.
So no, you don’t have to get naked for boudoir. You simply have to be yourself. I’ll take care of the rest — guiding you, encouraging you, and helping you create images that reflect your unique beauty and story.
If you’ve been curious about a session but hesitant because of this question, let this be your permission slip: you are in complete control. Whether you want to go bold, soft, romantic, or fully clothed, the experience will be crafted entirely around you — because empowerment looks different for everyone.
