Redefining Boudoir
“I’m not thin enough to do scantily clad photos.”
“I don’t own any sexy lingerie to wear.”
“What would I use photos of myself like that for?
These are just some of the reservations I’ve heard from women who’ve considered engaging with the process of boudoir photographs but don’t end up doing it. In this post, I want to clear up any misconceptions, offer some reassurance, and emphasize one of my goals as a photographer: redefining boudoir to empower women so that they can see themselves as the beautiful, strong, and interesting people they truly are.
As I see it, Boudoir Photography isn’t a synonym for “scandalous photos in lingerie.” I define the subfield of portrait photography as “an intimate and diverse style of photography aimed at helping women see themselves in a different and empowering light.” This means that when you book with me, I’m not interested in objectifying you in any way. I don’t want to make women just feel sexy; I want women to feel valued. I supportively guide you through each step of the process, which is designed to be fun, cathartic, and celebratory.
I believe that each person is “fearfully and wonderfully made,” imbued with the image of God. I envision my style of Boudoir photography as a way of honoring that. I also believe God has given people many of their passions, and I want to include that in your photos. Here are some examples of what boudoir photography can look like:
- Glamorous photos of you in a stunning dress in a natural environment (Don’t have one? Fear not. My client closet has plenty of size-inclusive options I’ve curated just for all of you)
- Images of you in a timeless outfit surrounded by beautiful flowers
- Edgy pictures (envision a leather jacket and sunglasses)
- Vintage-style photographs of you looking cute in a classic dress
- Photography that celebrates your passion for fitness
- Quirky portraits that center the unique things that make you, you, whether it’s your pets, a joy in baking, or sense of humor
If you don’t identify as creative, don’t worry! Part of the consultation process involves a lot of brainstorming. Remember, my goal is to make women feel valued, and that can look different for different individuals! As we chat, I can help you decide just what kind of elements in your session would artistically honor your body, heart, and soul. I’d love for you to reach out and chat with me about how we could design your outside-the-box Boudoir experience.
